1I think you actually want to know the difference between "virgin vinyl" and "recycled vinyl" siding. Both are "manufactured".
Vinyl is an oil based product. "Virgin vinyl" is made without using recycled materials. "Recycled vinyl" is made using a mixture of virgin and recycled materials. There is a difference in the two materials.
Virgin vinyl tends to be a softer and more pliable material. Depending on the percent of recycled material used, recycled vinyl tends to be stiffer and has a brittle feel.
Either material is perfectly acceptable for use as siding. Many contractors and installers prefer virgin vinyl products because they believe that it will withstand impact and retain color better than recycled vinyl. I share this view. As far as I know, Alcoa is still one of the only manufacturers that uses 100% virgin vinyl.
Having said that, both types of siding usually carry the same warranties. In that case, I recommend that you choose a vinyl from a recognizable national manufacturer. If a warranty claim arises 15 years from know, you can be reasonably sure they will still be around to honor it.
Good luck with your siding project.
